27th Havana Festival of Contemporary Music '2013

In late November, will be held the twenty-seventh edition of the Havana Festival of Contemporary Music, organized by the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and the Cuban Institute of Music.

The Basílica de San Francisco de Asís concert hall will be the venue of the opening concert, dedicated to Cuban chamber music. The festival's closing activity will be a concert at the Covarrubias hall of the National Theater of Cuba by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Great Theatre of Havana.

Renowned Cuban soloists, choirs, chamber orchestras and musical groups will perform pieces by prestigious composers like Harold Gramatges, Carlos Fariñas, Leo Brouwer, Alfredo Diez Nieto, Juan Blanco, Guido López-Gavilán, Roberto Valera, Jorge Garciaporrua, Héctor Angulo, Juan Piñera, Jorge López Marín, José María Vitier, Magalys Ruiz, Louis Aguirre y Eduardo Martín además de obras pertenecientes a jóvenes creadores representantes de las nuevas generaciones, como Teresa Núñez, Elvira Peña, Yanier Hechavarría, Siegrid Macías, Maureen Reyes, Jeysi León Molina, Waldo Lavaut y Víctor Gavilondo.

For this edition have confirmed their participation Adriano Ambrosini (Pianist - Italy), Antipe da Stella (Piper - Switzerland), Boris Alvarado (Director Orchestra / Composer - Chile), Mikkel Andersen (Guitarist - Denmark), Marisa Manchado Torres (Composer - Spain), Grupo Cosmos 21 (Chamber Ensemble - Spain), Isaac de la Concha (Composer - Mexico), Kimberly Davis (Pianist - Puerto Rico), Makcim Fernández Samodaiev and Monica Florescu (Cello and Piano - Cuba - Romania), Jorge Antunes and the GEMUNB Group of Brazil.

The scenarios of the Historic Center of the City as the Basílica Menor de San Francisco de Asís concert hall, Ignacio Cervantes hall, Ernesto Lecuona hall of the National Lyric Theater, the Casa de las Américas cultural institution, the Rubén Martínez Villena hall of UNEAC and Covarrubias hall of the National Theater of Cuba will serve as venues of concerts, conferences, master classes and workshops by invited foreign artists.

Founded in 1984, the Havana Festival of Contemporary Music have been attended by world prestigious composers like Luigi Nono, Krystof Penderecki, Zyygniew Rudzinski, Hans Werner Henze, Sten Hanson, Luis de Pablo, Ramón Barce, Marlos Nobre, Gerardo Gandini, Manuel de Elías, Alfredo del Mónaco, Alfredo Rugeles, Celso Garrido Lecca, Manuel Enríquez, Xavier Montsalvatge, Florentín Giménez, Jorge Sarmientos, Harold Gramatges, Leo Brouwer, Carlos Fariñas, Juan Blanco, Roberto Valera and Juan Piñera, among many others.

Cuban maestro Guido López-Gavilán presides over the event's organizing committee.
